Processes and Procedures for Small Business

Julien, Pierre-Andre. (1993). Small Businesses as a Research Subject: Some Reflections on Knowledge of Small Businesses and its Effects on Economic Theory. Dordrecht: Small Business Economics.

This journal goes into the importance of entrepreneurs as a main variable of change in an economy. It is discussed that small businesses are seen as productive units in the economy and have helped us build a better economic theory that is dynamism of their simple and flexible structures but also remain a driving force. This paper examines main economic explanations, theories, concepts and ideas that characterize small businesses and entrepreneurs in the economic balance and as major elements in economic theory.

It explains these characteristics through that of the role of the entrepreneur to economic change, the stochastic distribution of managerial abilities and introduction of new small businesses into the economy. It examines the theory of interstices and the limits of economies of scale or risks. This is a very well written article that has a lot of insight into that of economic theory pertaining to that of small businesses, but I did not find a lot of areas that it would be helpful for my paper.

Akaeze, Christian. (2016). Exploring Strategies Required for Small Business Sustainability In Competitive Environments. Walden University: ProQuest Dissertations

This went through multiple case studies exploring small business strategies used to sustain business in relationship to the facts shown that only 25% off new startup businesses stay afloat. The case studies were compiled of coding techniques and cluster analysis’s that were used to evaluate the small business owner’s strategies for success, customer satisfaction, and prior experience.
Some of the main reasons mentioned behind small business failure were due to a lack of education, training, and support required to sustain them. I found it interesting that they used an exploratory study through that of qualitative research. There wasn’t much in this article that would end up helping me write my next paper but it was a good read. There were a lot of questions and answers directed at small business owners of auto dealerships in order to conduct their studies and broaden the understanding behind substantiated success but no real quality information for me to use on a feasibility study.
