Value and Values: Economics and Justice in an Age of Global Interdependence

            This article digs into the issue of climate change and the existence of world hunger in a world with much surplus food, it calls these some of the most pressing issues of the twenty-first century. It indicates that this is not an issue that can be solve by one person or even one country. That it would take disciplines of many nations-states of different cultural perspectives to work together to generate a sustainable and globally strong coordination of values across different value systems. It indicates that based on the scale of the problem and the necessity for coordinating at a global level for a solution. That this would bring together leading thinkers from around the world to deliberate on how best to correlate worth (value) base on what is worthwhile (values). Looking to determine value in a world that pairs human prosperity with personal, environmental and spiritual flourishing in a place of differing vision of what constitutes a moral life. There is a great need to understand the mounting awareness of the split between modern economics and ethics. The modern assumption is that the goal of maximizing human prosperity with the aim of enhancing our lives, contributors of this volume of work offer a set of challenges to assume independence of the quantitative and qualitative dimensions of human well-being. The article reflects back on complex interrelationships between economics, justice and equality.

            My thoughts on this article is that it holds some interesting views on how humans relate value to economic and social-economic values. I think it has some good points it just appears to be couched in so much scientific data that it makes for slow reading.
