At Will Part Time Instructor Employment Agreement

Welcome to School Name in Location. We are pleased you have agreed to join our team. We hope that you enjoy your assignment and that you will be a valuable addition to our school. 

In addition to welcoming you, this letter confirms our mutual understanding regarding your teaching assignment as a Part-time Instructor. After reviewing the following details please print, sign, and return.
Please note that your employment as a Part-time Instructor is contingent upon receipt of all appropriate faculty credentials. These include official higher education transcripts from institutions you attended, current curriculum vita, and all official licensures and certifications that are required to teach in specific content areas.

Compensation 

You are a salaried part-time employee. You are paid a set amount for your teaching assignment. Your salary covers both your classroom/lab and non-teaching duties. As an exempt employee, you are ineligible for overtime payments. 

Your pay will not fluctuate during the term, even if you occasionally work more or less in a workweek, except if:
a) you pick up or drop a course assignment;
b) you are absent from work for one or more full class period in a workweek ;
c) you are eligible for and are absent from work for one or more full class periods in a workweek for unpaid Family and Medical Leave Act leave; or
d) where applicable law permits deductions from pay or a campus policy requires additions to pay.

In addition, if in the judgment of School Name a class does not have enough students to warrant holding the class, no payment will be made. If the class is discontinued after the start of the term, a pro-rated payment will be made for the period you worked.


Benefits 

As a part-time employee, you are eligible to participate in a limited medical plan that provides coverage for varying levels of service; you are eligible to participate in the Employee Stock Purchase Program beginning on the first day of the quarter following commencement of your employment. You are eligible to participate in the tuition assistance programs after completing the earlier of: two years of employment or 1,000 hours of employment, but in no event sooner than 12 months of employment. You are also eligible to participate in the CEC 401(k) Plan if you complete 1,000 hours of employment in any calendar year. School Name and Address.

Performance Evaluation 

Instructional quality is a key priority for School Name. Your performance as a faculty member will be evaluated for quality, compliance and student success. 

School Name-sanctioned course syllabi are due prior to Week 1, and should address all aspects of the course, including course objectives and learning outcomes, all support services available to students, learning resources, technology resources, assignment expectations and reading material. You are expected to provide assignments that relate to real-life contexts. 

Final grades and all course obligations must be completed appropriately before your part-time assignment is satisfactorily fulfilled. Grading requirements are listed in the Faculty Handbook

You are expected to be punctual, starting and ending your classes and labs at the prescribed times. You are also expected to be present throughout the prescribed hours of your classes and labs. Faculty may be observed each term and/or mentored by a full-time instructor. If it is determined by the School that you are not adhering to the attendance expectations outlined here, you may be subject to corrective action, up to and including termination of employment.

Teaching 

You are expected to treat every student with respect. You are expected to support students in their academic and social success. This is achieved through your participation in new student orientation (as requested), academic tutoring and/or mentoring as needed, academic advising (as requested), career-related counseling, the identification of at-risk students and their referral to the appropriate support services. Support is also provided through serving as a faculty adviser to student clubs or organizations (as requested). We are committed to every student succeeding and reaching their full potential.

You must be available to your students during your scheduled office hours as indicated on your approved syllabus. 

In addition you may be asked to perform administrative duties under the direction of your supervisor and you may be asked to participate in departmental and institutional assessment initiatives as determined by school leadership. School Name and Address.


Faculty Development 

As part of the faculty performance review process, you will regularly submit a faculty development plan, per supervisory direction. 

School Name schedules professional development activities and mandatory faculty meetings throughout the year. You are required to attend these activities if you are teaching during the term in which they occur.
You are also expected to participate in external professional activities as they relate to your field and advance your professional growth. You are expected to maintain a current portfolio of your professional development activities which will be reviewed from time to time by your supervisor.

Future Employment 

Whether you are asked to teach in a future term is subject to many factors, including but not limited to: student needs, faculty experience and credentials, course enrollment, faculty performance, etc. If in management’s sole discretion, the University determines that your teaching services would be appropriate in a future term, you will be notified by the school in advance of that term.

Disclaimers 

School Name materials remain the property of School Name and any materials and/or programs developed are the property of School Name. Course development approval and any applicable compensation are covered under a separate agreement. Faculty may not, independently, change course descriptions, learning objectives, textbooks; these may only be changed by the University-designated committee and with the approval of academic leadership. 

The employment relationship between you and School Name is at-will and this letter does not imply continued employment. This means that either you or School Name may terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason or for no reason at all, with or without notice. 

You are expected to comply fully with all policies, practices and procedures of School Name as outlined in the faculty handbook, catalog and procedures manuals. This letter supersedes any prior offer letter, discussion, or agreement, whether oral or written. No changes to the terms and conditions of your employment will be effective unless they are in writing and approved by the School Name.
