What is Ecotourism?
Today we will be looking at
the benefits of ecotourism for the hospitality industry, and responsible
travel.
Ecotourism is defined
as the responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment,
sustains the wellbeing of the local people, and involves interpretation and
education (TIES, 2015). Education is meant to be inclusive of both staff and
guests.
The principles of
Ecotourism is about uniting conservation. Communities, and sustainable travel.
This means that those who implement, and participate in the market of
ecotourism activities should adopt the following ecotourism principle.
·
Minimize physical, social, behavioral, and
psychological impacts.
·
Build environmental and cultural awareness and
respect.
·
Provide positive experiences for both visitors
and hosts.
·
Provide direct financial benefits for
conservation.
·
Generate financial benefits for both local
people and private industry.
·
Deliver memorable interpretative experiences to
visitors that help raise sensitivity to host countries political,
environmental, and social climates.
·
Design, construct and operate low-impact
facilities.
·
Recognize the right and spiritual beliefs of the
Indigenous people in your community and work in partnership with them to create
empowerment.
Ecotourism emphasizes on enriching
the personal experiences and creates environmental awareness. Ecotourism
promotes a greater understanding and appreciation for nature, local society and
culture.
Ecotourism destination is managed
in the public sector and will learn to better plan and manage the impact of
tourism and their destinations. To manage properly we need to work with local
tour operators, resort owners and managers. Managers need to effectively obtain
assistance from international conservation organization’s and lending
institutions and to work with local communities. Ecotourism is also managed by
the local government, especially with air travel.
Conclusion
We
have learned that ecotourism has a big impact on the hospitality industry.
Managers need to effectively obtain assistance to achieve the goals of a
sustainable environment.
