IT has become a critical part of almost every department, and most companies have high expectations for their technical investment – including lower costs, increased safety, increased productivity, or improved workflows and communications.
However, IT strategy often ends up as an afterthought despite this important role. Attached to the business strategy, rather than being an integral part of it. This can be partly because IT is viewed as a separate entity, where decisions and investments are often made using a technology-centered approach rather than a business-oriented approach.
This divided approach, both by the company as a whole and by IT, is counterproductive and usually only increases the disconnection between the two
Businesses, large or small, across all industries. Even though your company uses only one computer, their many responsibilities are integral. One of the common role in any business today is communications.
How do people communicate on your job internally and externally? Using VoIP telephone systems? Are they emailing? What would happen if these channels went offline suddenly? Not only would it be a pain to collaborate with your colleagues, your customers would certainly not be happy. IT teams are there to solve problems – they know the ins and outs of your channels of communication, how to keep them up and running, and how to keep your conversations safe. Without them, operating your business would be impossible.
