Leadership Strategic Decision-Making

Management strategic decision-making is different than leadership strategic decision-making in that management is designed to plan and make decisions that support and build the business structure, while leadership is there to execute those plans while inspiring the changes needed to fulfill the vision of management strategic decision-making. Leaders within an organization, whether they have legitimate power or not, are essential to the effective creation, implementation, and continuous improvement of a strategic vision (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, & Strickland, 2018). “Regardless of the business functions or the types of managerial decisions to be made, effective and efficient management cannot be achieved without leadership” (Capsim Knowledge Resource, p. 9).

Leaders inspire. They don’t simply boss people around to meet goals and objectives. Instead, a leader connects with individuals on a humane level using empathy as a bridge to affect change or to influence productivity. For example, charismatic leaders build credibility and a base of followers by building alliances and lasting relationships that ultimately result in loyalty. To the individual, a charismatic leader inspires action through empowerment. To the community at large, charismatic leaders inspire change for the betterment of all citizens, no matter the cost, it is her or his reputation as a leader that will effect change. To the competition, charismatic leaders position themselves as the alpha in the market, instilling fear and gaining market share.
