System Development

System development is generally the implementation of software engineering, system engineering and information system to comprehensive define the process of business planning, testing, creating and the deployment of an information system. The system development life cycle is a multiple stage approach used by IT professionals to develop high-quality information systems from planning and analysis through support and maintenance. The system provides framework numerous systems development methodologies. The cycle involves five basic stages; system planning, system analysis, system design, implementation and testing and support and maintenance (Alexander, & Maiden, 2005).
Some organizations opt to use alternative system development methods with significant contribution to their business processes. The alternative system is designed to establish solutions affecting the business organization. Boise Cascade Corp instituted an alternative SDLC following its transformative goals of enhancing their IT support system in their projects. After several years of trails, the company established the background for integrating a Joint Application Design (JAD as an alternative SDLC for its projects. According to the company’s manager, JAD provides a more robust methodology for the collection of user requirements and the creation of system design. The approach used by JAD or system development provides several advantages to the organization.
Some of the benefits of Joint Application Design is that it has influence group processing with the involvement of more users in the development process while saving time. Depending on the facilitators, JAD has enabled the organization diversify its support and acceptance with regard to the new system for the production of high quality systems. The cost of implementing such new system has become more efficient and less costly owing the understanding in the user’s needs. I believe the implementation of JAD was the right approach since the organization had previously used SDLC approaches but there was significant decline in system productivity.
